Privacy Notice

1. What we store
- Your account — your name, username, email address, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), your role, your plan and its usage counters, and the preferences you set (theme, language, console settings).
- Your labs — the simulator labs and Real labs you save to your account: topology, device configurations and notes.
- Console logs you save to your dashboard — only when you choose Log ▾ → Save log to my dashboard. Consoles are not recorded otherwise.
- Content you publish — articles, forum posts, comments, published labs, and messages you send through the Contact page.
- An activity trail — a short record of account and administration events (sign-in, sign-in failed, account created, plan changed, image uploaded, lab started and the like): when, which account, what, and whether it worked. It never contains passwords, session tokens or the contents of a console. It is kept to a fixed number of recent entries and is visible to administrators.
- Orders and statements for paid plans — the plan, the amount, the period and whether it has been paid.
- Images an administrator uploads to a lab server, with their name, size and checksum.
We use this to run your account and labs, to enforce plan limits, to keep the service secure, and to answer you when you contact us. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
2. Cookies and browser storage
ZNetLab does not use advertising or tracking cookies. It keeps a few things in your browser's
localStorage: your sign-in token for the lab server, your theme and language,
console preferences, and — for the browser simulator — labs you saved in this browser. Clearing
your browser's site data removes them. If you choose a language other than English, Google's
translator sets a googtrans cookie to remember it (see below).
3. Other companies involved
- OpenStreetMap map tiles — only if an administrator turns them on.
The Sign-ins screen in the admin portal draws its map from an outline held in this
site's own files, which asks nothing of anybody. An administrator may switch on a
detailed map instead; that setting is off by default and is
remembered only in that administrator's own browser. While it is on, that browser
requests map images from
tile.openstreetmap.org, so OpenStreetMap receives that browser's IP address and the coordinates of the tiles being viewed — which say roughly which part of the world is being looked at. Those requests carry no account name, no signed-in user's address and nothing else from this server: the markers are drawn locally, over the tiles. Nobody but an administrator can turn this on, and no other page on this site requests a map tile. - Google Fonts. Pages load the Poppins and JetBrains Mono fonts from
Google's servers (
fonts.googleapis.com,fonts.gstatic.com). Your browser therefore sends your IP address and a normal browser request to Google when a page loads. See Google's privacy policy. - Google Translate — only if you choose a language other than English. The page is then translated by Google's website translator, which means the page text and your IP address are sent to Google. English readers never contact Google Translate.
- Payments. ZNetLab never asks for or stores card numbers. If a paid plan is settled through a payment provider, you pay on that provider's own page and it handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; ZNetLab receives only whether the order was paid.
- Hosting. The server that runs ZNetLab is operated by, or on behalf of, the organisation that runs this site.
4. How long we keep it
Account data, labs and saved logs are kept while your account exists. The activity trail keeps only its most recent entries. Order records may be kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after an account is deleted.
5. Your choices and rights
- You can view and change your account details, and delete saved labs and console logs, from your dashboard.
- Deletion on request: ask through the Contact page and we will delete your account and the data tied to it, apart from records we are legally required to keep.
- Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of your data, to correct it, to object to its use, or to complain to a data-protection authority.
6. Security
Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, sessions use random tokens, and a lab server serves only its public folders. No system is perfectly secure; please use a password you do not use anywhere else.
7. Children
ZNetLab is not directed at children under the age at which your country allows them to consent to online services on their own. If you believe a child has given us personal data without permission, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes and contact
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions and requests: use the Contact page. See also the Terms of Use.
